Natural Hazard and Spatial Analyst

About the Role

This is a role that is required due to new contracts and ongoing work load.  You will be responsible for undertaking spatial analysis, natural hazards investigations, and report preparation while working on ground-breaking projects for clients ranging from Local Government to the United Nations.  You will have the unique opportunity to receive individual training from the company directors.

You will make a significant contribution to cutting edge natural hazards projects in Australia and overseas.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Spatial analysis using ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS to support natural hazard and environmental projects
  • Evacuation modelling
  • Flood emergency response planning
  • Assessment of risk from climate change and natural hazards, including; flooding, bushfire, tropical cyclone, earthquake, drought, storms, sea level rise and heatwave
  • Floodplain management and water resource projects
  • Environmental and community engagement projects
To be successful for this role you must have the following:
  • A first class Honours degree related to natural hazards management; civil or environmental engineering, environmental science or natural resource management
  • Two to 5 years’ experience, preferably in a consulting environment, working in natural hazards management; Candidates with post graduate qualifications in spatial analysis are also encouraged to apply
  • Familiarity with GIS applications including ESRI and QGIS
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong MS Office skills, particularly Word and Excel
  • A current drivers license
  • Permission to work full-time in Australia
The following qualities and experience are not necessary but would be highly regarded:
  • Experience in floodplain management
  • Experience with the software “WaterRide”
  • Experience in water modelling, including hydrological and hydraulic
  • Programming ability (e.g. VBA or Python)
  • Ability to think laterally and develop solutions to technical problems
  • Previous experience in a consulting environment

Environmental Consultant

This is a full time or part time role created by recent successes on several major tenders. We are seeking a person with qualifications in natural resource management, environmental science, environmental engineering or similar discipline and at least two years’ professional experience. The successful applicant will provide support on a diversity of environmental and natural hazards projects and publications.

Graduate Ecologist

This position will see you assisting a Senior ecologist in undertaking ecological surveys, preparation of ecological reports and plans of management. You will be expected to undertake broader environment impact assessments.

  • Working knowledge of relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation

Senior Ecologist

This position will see you leading ecological field investigations, report preparation and biodiversity assessments and undertaking broader environmental investigations and impact assessments. You will supervise others and utilise your established contacts and networks for business development and marketing activities.

  • Degree qualified ecologist with more than seven years’ experience, preferably within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated botanical identification skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Working knowledge of relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation
  • Sound experience with Sydney Basin ecology and undertaking ecological survey in the vegetation communities of NSW.
  • BAM Accreditation and/or bushfire planning accreditation would be highly regarded.
